Jade Pagoda was a Yahoo group that had moderated posting for new members, with 559 members at its close. The group was extremely active between 2000-2005 when it received up to 3000 messages a month. The group began dying out in 2011 and although there were only 30 posts in its final 3 years, the community archives were backed up with PG Offline and posted to the group.

Although separate groups were created for audiowork (JPAudio), the new TV series (JadePagodaTV), Buffy and Angel (JPSunnydale) and "Other media areas" (JPMedia), these other groups were not particularly successful. Many long off-topic discussions made up the bulk of conversation in the group, although these generally began based on book content.

The group's final major discussion was in June 2014 regarding self publishing and the book Time's Mosaic.

Description

'The Pagoda is as ancient as it is foreboding. As old as time say the terrified few who know of its almost mythic existence. But it's not so much the building's age that frightens them as it is the evil dwelling within its decrepit halls.' - Ben Raab, 'Journey into Mystery' #515 The Jade Pagoda is for the discussion of all Doctor Who books. But it must be noted that Doctor Who audio dramas and the television show are off-topic..

> I despise Listbot. Hats off to finally moving to Egroups.

I'm gonna snatch a smidgen of credit at this happy juncture :) It was a long struggle to get the move to happen, eventually reduced to David Ball and myself having to run a vote to beat people over the head with the fact that yes, ListBot sucked and, yes, you weren't alone if you wanted to move!

One false start later (may egroup's JadePagoda rest in peace), here we are at, er, Jade_Pagoda :)

I'm doing an update to the Doctor Who News Page this evening, and there will be a blurb about the move there. Also on the Dr. Who Alliance list, which currently goes to about 2,300 people.

Ignore the nay sayers, it' a fine fine film though not without flaws: the "factory floor" is worth the admission price I reckon, and there are a number of cameos from the TV series as well as other works by Adams. And be sure the stay for the post-credits (well, sort of near the end of the ctedits) piece.

In retrospect, it would have been nice to see the books dovetail into the new series somehow. I wondered at the time whether they'd do it in the comics.

I realise it's marketing gubbins, but the idea that Benny - a popular character created in a Dr Who novel series by a respected writer (who's also written for telly Droo) - is suddenly made more official by appearing in a limp tie-in book that practically nobody wants to read ... comes from where, exactly?

I look forward to the canonisation of the Chelonians in a Decide Your Destiny with Capaldi's grumpy face on the cover.
