Reactions and Reviews
1997
What I enjoyed the most about this story was that I was able to really like Kirk. He is drawn here with a quiet sensitivity and selflessness not every writer gives him credit for. Personally, I find it very difficult to write Spock’s POV and I found the author did it excellently. [1]
2000
Nicely done adaptation of the day after Amok Time. Actually, the night after. Kirk, sleepless because he keeps recalling dying at Spock's hands, goes to his friend and finds him in a terrible state of desolation. Feeling he has lost all ties to his heritage, his homeland, he turns away and asks, "Is there no one...for...me?" The answer is not immediate but comes about naturally as Kirk soothes and comforts his bereft companion. I found this a very worthwhile short read which was handled quite believably. [2]
