Illyandria's Fan Fic Board was, in its heyday, the most popular forum for Ares/Xena shippers. It was hosted on Ezboard and was part of Illyandria's Xena and Ares Page.
For years after the forum closed, archived versions could be found on the Wayback Machine. As of (but not starting in) 2022, archived pages can no longer be accessed due to Ezboard.com's URL exclusion.
Evolution and Rules
Subbers were originally not welcome on the board, although this eventually changed. The final rules of the board read as follows:
This is a Xena Shipper Forum, and as such, it is dedicated to and is meant for those fans who believe that Xena and Ares are, or should be, a romantic couple. And as such, this is the underlying principle that posters are expected to adhere to at this board.
This means all Xena related comments are welcome EXCEPT for debates about subtext and any comments 'dissing' Ares as Xena's lover. Differing viewpoints are welcome so long as they are stated gracefully. Flaming, harassing, and intentionally speaking disrespectfully IS NOT allowed.
- If you find an offensive post, whether you be shipper or subtexter, please e-mail me at [email protected] and notify me of the post and the author, and I will remove it and warn the writer.
- In the case that you are someone who posted an offensive comment, I will warn you. If this occurs on a regular basis you will be banned from the message board.
- Remember that people of all ages come to the board -- I, the webmistress, am only 14. Use discretion when posting.
- If you are posting off topic subjects (anything not related to Xena, Ares, the actors/actresses, or fan fiction), please put OT : ***your subject*** in the subject box. This makes it easier for those who are only there for Xena-related conversation.
- If you are posting fan fiction, please put FF : ***your title*** in the subject box. This makes it easier for us to see what the post is about.[1]
Controversy and Downfall

In August 2001, user Piscean (known to other boards, but new to this one) created a rift by posting accusations regarding well-known shipper Something Royal. The founder of the board, Illyandria, did not handle the situation well. Many shippers abandoned the forum, including AresXenaFan (Dixie), Cressid, LadyKate, Roxy, Skkye Blue, Something Royal, and Tango.
Timeline of Events
On August 17, 2001, user XenaAresFan (Dixie) posted a topic labeled "Desperately Seeking... Something Royal."[2] Over the next few days, user Piscean made multiple posts denigrating Something Royal's character, stating things like "[she] has sold out many Shippers and non-subtexters to the lesbians and subtexters."[3]
By August 22, 2001, Skkye Blue in her capacity as forum moderator had locked down the "Desperately Seeking... Something Royal" thread and bumped it off the front page of the board.[4]
By August 24, 2001, Skkye Blue had either resigned as moderator or been removed by Illyandria.[5] Piscean succeeded her as moderator.[5]
On August 24, 2001, Tango posted a thread titled "I'm leaving, too. WHO CARES?"
That's right. I've been here for ages, a year at least, and everyone here knows how much I love this place. It's the first place I turn to when I have something I want to share, the people here are my friends. Finding this forum was one of the happiest moments of my life. This is my favourite place on the net.
So why am I leaving?
Simple answer: I'm surprised, saddened and disappointed by the recent disgusting events here and the change in moderatorship. This place is turning into the snakepit that the Nutforum used to be, with flames and personal insults behind people's backs.
I'm not going to be as diplomatic as Cressid was about this. I'm going to be honest. If this post is deleted before you've all had a chance to see it, it would be one of my greatest regrets, because it would herald the death of this forum.
The cause of these problems is Piscean's behaviour. He has a history of generating conflict on other boards, he is banned from many of these. His behaviour is no different - anyone who's read his posts must have noticed it. Go on, read them - I feel SICK just thinking about it!
He has repeatedly damaged the reputation of shippers as a group by his comments. What's more, he has attacked individual shippers (and others) - incluing Something Royal.
His behaviour is unacceptable. I wanted to stay out of it, but I can't. I'm voting with my feet and leaving. So are many others.

Something Royal (obviously)
...and now, me.There are undoubtedly others.
If you care about this board, if you enjoy the posts and writing of the people above, if you don't want our forum to become another nutfarm, then please join me in asking Illy to remove Piscean from here permanently.
We will be back when he's gone. Until then, I would like to say thankyou to all my friends here for making this place the wonderful shipper haven it used to be.

The board was deleted on August 25, 2001 at around 1:00 AM in the morning by Illyandria.[7] It may or may not have been reinstated.
