Hunted is a Sentinel story by Rimilod.

Author's Notes

"Story Birth: This story was inspired by a paragraph from Impala's story, "Mercy." It goes, and I quote: "Blair as an enemy, willing or not, was an intimidating proposition. For the first time in a long while, the scope of his friend's knowledge and brilliance hit him, but this time it carried a hint of the fear he had not experienced since their meeting in that office of long ago." (As an aside, you should read this story!!! Very angsty!!!!!) Needless to say, a two hundred pound plot bunny smacked me in the middle of the forehead. However, I couldn't find the appropriate motivation to make this story real for me. Eventually, a minor plot bunny (who had only been nibbling on my toes) caught the interest of the monster plot bunny, and this story was born."

Regarding Sequels

A fan asked the author if there would be any sequels to this story. Dolimir replied: "I never did. Technically, the story was about Blair using Jim's senses against him. I had to give Blair a real reason to do that and the only thing I could come up with was to protect Naomi. A sequel would have diverged away from that main theme. There was also the fact I couldn't quite work out what would happen if he did actually track down Blair. Sorry.

I should open my Sentinel stories up to fandom. Let them write sequels. It seems a lot of my Sentinel stories should have had a bit more to them. But I'm doubtful I'll actually go back and write them myself." [1]

Reactions and Reviews

That was very good. I particularly liked how, even in the midst of the hunt, each of them had little pangs of worry about the other. I loved the clever things Blair did. And the setup was believable - no need for evil bad-guy brainwashing or anything over the top like that. Whew. Addendum: nominated for favourite alternate universe story, 2001 Cascade Times Awards.[2]

The author’s summary reads: “What would it take for Blair to use his knowledge of sentinels against Jim?” An interesting question, because in the show we see Blair as the steadfast friend and sidekick. Yet sometimes Jim lashes out at Blair irrationally, and we wonder why. When you stop to think about it, Blair wields enormous power through his singular knowledge of Jim’s gifts. Could Jim’s greatest fear not be of abandonment (Blair writes his diss and then leaves), but of betrayal? And what would make loyal Blair use that knowledge against Jim? [3]

Simon inadvertently learns that Naomi is hiding a big secret. Will Blair’s special relationship with his mother be destroyed when it’s revealed? What about his relationship with Jim? An interesting proposition: What would it take for Blair to use his knowledge of sentinels against Jim? [4]
