The first time I read this story was just before the Weekend in the Country con in August of 2000. It came to my inbox via the SXF mailing list and I was impressed. It was a hot, urgent story, a play on Blair-survives-narrowly-and-sex-with-Jim-affirms-life that isn't run of the mill. Written in the first person present tense in Jim's pov, there is plenty of angst as Jim watches nearly helplessly as a gun-man holds Blair with a pistol to his head. Jim is already mourning when a lucky break saves Sandburg and Jim realizes that for the last three years, he and Blair have been involved in one long courtship and that soon they will finally becme lovers.[1]
