Hogwarts Houses Divided is a popular Harry Potter next generation fanfic by Inverarity (ff.net). The fic is set during Teddy Lupin's first year of Hogwarts and is epilogue-compliant. Hogwarts Houses Divided is a primarily gen fic that addresses issues of House unity, prejudice, and goblin rights, and has been praised for its well-written OCs and its inventive use of the Sorting Hat.

Summary from the author: "The war is over, and all is well, they say, but the wounds remain unhealed. Bitterness divides the Houses of Hogwarts. Can the first children born since the war's end begin a new era, or will the enmities of their parents be their permanent legacy?"

Hogwarts Houses Divided was first published between December 2007 and April 2008 on fanfiction.net and later on Mugglenet. Sometime around December 2023, the author uploaded the story to AO3. [1]

Around late 2023, Inverarity made the following comments about the story:

I wrote Hogwarts Houses Divided 17 years ago. It was the second full-length novel I ever finished (the first being Alexandra Quick and the Thorn Circle, the first book in my Alexandra Quick series.)

It was a fun story to write and a fun story to read, but looking back, I can see many flaws in the writing, in the plotting, in the characterization, things I'd go back and fix if I could. But rewriting an old fanfic just isn't something I have the time or inclination to do. And so I finally got around to reposting it here in the hopes that a new generation of readers will enjoy it.

I've occasionally thought about a sequel - in fact, at one point I had a trilogy semi-worked out in my head. Whether that will ever happen, I cannot say. I have some other writing projects I want to finish first (including the aforementioned Alexandra Quick series). But I remain fond of Teddy and his friends to this day, so perhaps Hogwarts Houses will come together again someday.
