Notes: Un-beta'ed as always, this was supposed to be my response to the abandon challenge over at sga_flashfic, only it quickly decended into crack!ficcery the likes which have rarely been seen in this journal. My only excuse is that, one, I spend too much time at dictionary.com and derive entirely too much amusement from picking definitions that are obscure and/or not the norm. And two, aithine and ophidiae are evil enablers that are deserving of any/all pitchforks and torches that this story inspires. This is for the both of you -- NOW ARE YOU SORRY?!

Why this must be read:

As Canadians go, I'm definitely - or I thought - not your stereotypical one. I went for snark over polite, don't drink beer, rarely say eh and have never managed to sit through an entire NHL game on tv much less watch one.

But this has proven to me that, yes, I am indeed a diehard Canuck and that the NHL lurve (As proven by the lockout) has nada to do with the Canadian passion for hockey. Lucky for me?

I'm not alone. I have McKay to keep me company. This fic for Canadians, will have you alternately snickering, nodding, and out and out giggling...for the rest of you? You'll laugh too. Promise. This is out and out one of the best fics I've read for Rodney in a long time and Zelenka...

Also? I should warn this fic may cause hockey fans to suddenly feel an unbearable urge to play a game of shinny. Consider yourselves warned.

A freewheeling, fast and funny fic about a hockey tournament in another galaxy. Rodney's POV is the perfect narration for the Stanley Cup for dorks, and the use of original characters to fully field the four competing teams is truly a thing of beauty. (Also try Variations on Loneliness, another fine product of sga_flashfic, and a lovely Teyla POV. Cleanly but poetically written, and her growing relationship with someone unexpected is believably portrayed.)
