Reactions and Reviews
An excellent exploration of the attitude of Bashir toward life, all life - Gail's portrayal of Bashir was wonderful and realistic, and I found MANY of his scenes very appealing, adding a new dimension to the way I think about the character. I also think she introduced a very likeable new character, and a real-life sort of dilemma that has no easy answers, and is as relevant to the DS9 "universe" as to any other - the preservation of life. The drama of the story was great too, not overly melodramatic but not making the situation too casual, either. I was really pleased to have found this story! [1]
Another ambitious story, and one of particular interest to me as someone who worked as a counsellor in a hospital, and dealt with ER. cardiology and oncology, all. To die with dignity. When is euthanasia giving up, when is it being kind? There were some very nice moments in this one, particularly between Sisko and his son, and between the dying doctor and Dax. She didn't fall into the trap of making the choices easy or without regrets. Very nice job, Gail! [2]
