Recs and Reviews
A lovely, juicy exploration of Qui-Gon’s psyche post-Naboo. Told from Qui-Gon’s POV, this story shows him dealing with a multitude of issues--his own mortality, growing older, what direction his life should take, loneliness now that Obi-Wan is knighted and out on his own. And yet it never really devolves into high drama or angst. It’s a quiet story, thoughtful and contemplative, with just the right blend of humor, romance and poignancy.[1]
Qui-Gon keeps thinking about Obi-Wan after his knighting, and has to discover why. An excellent story where Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are characterized as mature, adult Jedi.[2]
So many of TPM fics deal with the aftermath of Naboo; either changing the events there (Qui-Gon lives!) or adjusting to the consequences. I'm a sucker for the 'Qui-Gon lives' variety of AUs and this one just pushes all of those buttons. Obi-Wan is a Knight and he's moved on to his own missions while Qui-Gon recovers. I love how this fic never becomes truly angsty, it just skirts along the edges, while giving us a strong and capable Obi-Wan and a wonderfully contemplative Qui-Gon. An excellent read. [3]
