Harriet Vane is Lord Peter Wimsey's love interest in the detective novels by Dorothy L. Sayers. She is a mystery writer, first introduced in the Lord Peter novel Strong Poison, in which he investigates the suspicion she murdered a former lover. In the Lord Peter novels Have His Carcase and Gaudy Night, Harriet ponders her feelings regarding Lord Peter and his proposal of marriage, while he continues to court and work with her.
