Hanson Fans Against FanAxis was a campaign started by Alie and Sadie. It was created in response to what they and other fans saw as unfair treatment of fanclub members and users of Hanson's official website. They attributed blame to the website's management company, FanAxis, and hoped their campaign would cause Hanson to re-evaluate using the company.

A similar community on LiveJournal was created earlier in 2005, but all posts are locked to members only, likely because of FanAxis's tendency to pursue fans for misbehavior on other websites.[1]

In 2007, the band launched a new version of their website under management company New Medio. No statement about the change was released.

The Petition

We, the undersigned, request that the band Hanson re-evaluate its use of Fanaxis as manager of its website and fan club due to the mistreatment of fans and abuse of power.

We feel that this is causing immediate damage to Hansons career, and the popularity of its fan club. Persistent use of such methods by Fanaxis will only serve to further fuel the acts (such as filesharing) that they are trying unsuccessfully to prevent.

Examples of methods employed by Fanaxis on Hanson fans include (but are not limited to) the deletion of personal Photobucket accounts, MySpace accounts, and personal videos posted on YouTube. These actions are often taken without providing warning to the owners of the web-spaces in question.

We ask that Hanson seriously consider how these actions reflect on their image, and that they make the necessary changes to improve the state of their fan club, and fan base as a whole.[2]

Fan Responses

I just wanted to let everyone know that Hanson (well, fanaxis, I'm assuming) is currently in the process of having videos removed from youtube.com. I had two live videos up from the L&E tour and they were both removed today, and I recieved a copyright notice. So, if you have videos up, consider making them private or removing them altogether, because it's probably only a matter of time before they are taken down by fanaxis anyway.[3]

for my first of three upcoming papers, I need preliminary numbers on how satisfied the fanbase is with Hanson's management, management being Fanaxis and how they run the fanclub, and how Hanson themselves manage their own affairs "oh the cd will be out soon" "oh taylor never got married whoops just kidding" etc.[4]

I got banned last year from hnet.

I had just joined (been a for member maybe a month?) and in my 3rd or so post on the messageboard I made a mistake of posting this:

"So I got a email from my cousin today and her Hanson auction on ebay got shut down from fanaxis. They claimed the Moe Magazine hat she was selling violated their trademark issue. Anyone else here have this happen to them?"

So about an hour or so later I go to log in my hnet account and saw it had been suspended. I asked the support desk what happened and they said I was "supporting illegal activity" in my post. WTF?

So basically I paid $40 for a month of hanson.net. (well I did end up still getting the kit) But doesn't that suck?[5]

It just made me (and I'm sure a lot of other fans who've had to deal with them) feel completely unappreciated. In any other business in the world, if you pay for something and don't receive it, you expect to get your money back. What makes FanAxis so high and mighty that they don't have to give a shit about pleasing their paying customers?

People say this is making or will make Hanson lose the respect of fans. Well, it already HAS lost them the respect of fans. Not all, obviously, but some.

In my opinion, if someone is on your payroll, you know what you're paying them to do. If you don't, that's your problem. The point is, by paying them, Hanson is endorsing FanAxis' poor treatment of fans. And I don't just mean in regards to lost merchandise as was my experience. I also mean in regards to shutting down personal photobucket accounts and journals and whatnot, and completely abusing their power. They're rude, unprofessional, uncaring, and condescending.

If Hanson has no problem with their fans being treated this way, than they don't deserve them anyway.[6]

It's ridiculous to have the fanbase split into two- the h.netters and the non h.netters. To delete YouTube videos,LJs Myspaces and Photobuckets because it goes against their bloody absurd ToS is just the height of mind-boggling *idiocy*. I've never seen another band do this and I've never seen another fanbase that rats out on other fans just to suck up to a fanclub's leaders. Makes me glad I tend stay away from that kind of thing.ref>maxie2019 in antifanaxis: New Member</ref>

Myself and others have sent countless e-mails to Fanaxis pretending, convincingly (during different periods of time, from

different e-mail addresses, from different IP addresses, etc.), to be performing musicians interested more in their services. Not ONCE did we receive a reply of ANY sort - including automated.

...

I would like to say that I have been very hesitant about sharing these pieces of information. The very last thing I'd want to have happen pertaining to this would be to see Hanson fail, personally or musically. I wish to express that I sincerely love those boys and their music. It's just finally time to stop beating around the bush and turning a blind eye to this freaking mess. Do I have other things to worry about? Yes, definitely. Are there more important matters going down all over the world? Of course. But I had become sick and tired of watching the fandom that I've grown up with try and try, in complete vain, to figure out the mystery that was Fanaxis.[7]

So. We received emails from livejournal saying that we had to take the names and identifying characteristics out of the previous posts or we'd be shut down, including personal journals.

FanAxis reported us to Livejournal. FanAxis is watching us. They know we're here.

MY OPINION is that if what was posted and perhaps speculated WASN'T true, FanAxis would IGNORE IT to prove that we were WRONG. MY OPINION is that it was asked to be removed because IT WAS true.

MY OPINION is that Hanson should step up and address the shady business techniques of its fanclub management and GIVE THE FANS an explanation for this bullshit.

We're getting down to fucking business in the next month. Keep your eyes peeled. You too FanAxis.[8]

Oh please, oh please--let fanaxis be a thing of the past. (I know, I know, I'm sure it's a wolf in sheep's clothing kind of thing, but, a girl can dream, can't she?)[9]

this kind of stuff only proves to me that Hanson, or the people in charge of their business, don't want communities like this to exist. They want hanson.net to be the monopoly so it's easier for them to delete the accounts of people who disobey them. poo on hanson.[10]

The guy from New Medio said that they are trying to "better utilize and embrace" the fan sites, and as such, if they see anything questionable they'll contact and ask that it be removed. I think that New Medio is going to be a lot easier to work with than FanAxis was, so I don't see us really having any problems. :)[11]
