Hameln (ハーメルン) is a Japanese-language fanfiction site started in 2012.

It was established as a spiritual successor to Nijifan, the fanfiction branch of the web novel site Narou (小説家になろう), in 2012.[1] Its operator remains anonymous,[4] and is not associated with Narou. The website is funded by ads inserted to the user-contributed content.

Site features

Similar to its predecessor, it has a ranking system that encourages direct competition between fics, both within a fandom and site-wide, over readership.[5] It also has a publicly-accessible analytics feature that allows authors and readers to track the popularity of fics and chapters.

Restrictions

Real person fiction is not permitted. Until December 25 2018, fanfiction based on Disney works was also not permitted.[6]

Until late 2019, the use of copyrighted song lyrics (songfic) was also disallowed. In 2019 Hameln entered into a licensing agreement with JASRAC and NexTone allowing lyrics to be used in fics subject to strict conditions, including attaching the song's licensing code to the fic.[7]
