Halloween Hearts is a charity zine centered Kingdom Hearts characters engaging in Halloween festivities.

About

On March 22, 2020, the zine's social media account first teased a Halloween-related project[1]. An interest form was posted three days later to gauge demand for the zine[2]. Interest checks finished on April 3, 2020, and applications opened the next day for artists, writers, and merch artists[3]. Applications closed on May 2, 2020[4]. Acceptance emails were sent on May 6th[5].

Due to the high number of zine projects running at the time, khzines, a Twitter account tracking Kingdom Hearts zine projects, ran a poll about preorder schedule preferences. In response, the zine team of Halloween Hearts hosted their own poll asking if followers were satisfied if preorders should open in late 2020 as intended or early the next year, to which a majority voted that the zine should stay on schedule[6].

Preorders opened on September 1, 2020, with the following pricing tiers[7]:

  • Fun Size ($15-$20 USD) - Digital Zine
  • Trick ($25-$30 USD) - Digital Zine, Sticker Sheets
  • King Size ($30-$45 USD) - Sticker Sheets, Acrylic Charms, Buttons, Enamel Pin, Acrylic Standee
  • Treat ($55-$60 USD) - Digital Zine, Sticker Sheets, Acrylic Charms, Buttons, Enamel Pin, Acrylic Standee

The acrylic standee featured in these bundles was available as an add-on to any purchase for $20 USD[8]. A giveaway for crafts by findyourwayart was hosted from October 24 to the end of preorders on October 31, 2020[9]. The winners of the giveaway were Twitter user EyesHidTheTruth and one anonymous fan[10].

The zines were sent out by November 2, 2020[10]. Physical orders were shipped out by December 22, 2020[11]. Leftover sales began on January 25, 2021, and ended on August 3rd[12].

On September 10, 2021, the zine project announced that their proceeds of $215.62 USD (¥23,136 JPY) was donated to HEART-Tokushima[13].
