The convention of The Golden Hours club is considered by many to first "true" fan convention. Hosted by the publishers of Golden Hours, a popular children's literature magazine of the era. It had had an attendance of almost 2,000, mostly young boys who were the target audience of the Golden Hours club. Notable guests and speakers included circus founder, P.T. Barnum and author Edward S. Ellis.
