Girl Who Falls Into is a Lord of the Rings-specific description of the larger trope, Real World Crossover.

Criticism of this trope includes many of the same complaints about Mary Sues:

the character having trouble adapting to Middle-earth (language, customs, strange food, unfamiliar clothes and bathrooms)
she almost always joins the Fellowship of the Ring as major player, often as a 10th Walker
the character acts more like a awestruck tourist

hey great story, most fall-into-middle-earth stories end up being pretty boring and unoriginal what with the whole 'oh lets get dropped into the fellowship and be protected by Aragorn and Legolas!' that most theses stories have going on. but this ones got a good plotline. quirky and original. Keep up the good work :)^[1]

The story of a modern Kenyan girl who arrives in Middle Earth after her death in a plane crash. The story looks at the racism she faced as a black mortal among the elves. It also explores the reality of a mortal/Immortal love. Not a 10th Walker. ^[2]

Well I just finished your story and found it quite good. Generally the "Girl-fall-in-ME" plots crashed down pretty quickly but I really liked yours. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel! ^[3]

When I first clicked on this story I was expecting that your girl-who-falls-into-middle-earth story would be very mary-sue ish. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of your writing and originality of your plot! I continue to read it with great eagerness. ^[4]

Sky is a random girl who falls into Middle Earth as they seem wont to do nowadays. I'm surprised they haven't got a small section of ME cordoned off for them all... Anyway, Fili and Kili take an interest in Sky because they haven't been laid in a while and seduce her into having some ADULT fun with them... LEMON! Plz leave a REVIEW! ^[5]
