Get in the ( fucking ) robot, Shinji was a phrase or meme that began close to the beginning of Neon Genesis Evangelion's western fandom, as translations of the series began to become available. It is a reference to Gendo Ikari's order to Shinji Ikari in the first episode of NGE. It is used to either directly reference that scene, or is used to refer to moments in other media where someone is pressured or given an order, usually by a superior, often to "save the world" but they are new and inexperienced or unsure of their skill and just wanted to relax or do normal everyday things. The difficult thing they must do may be various levels of necessary, but the meme also draws attention to the rudeness or harshness of the order.
