Held annually in Seattle, GeekGirlCon "celebrates and honors the legacy of women contributing to science and technology; comics, arts, and literature; and game play and game design by connecting geeky women world-wide and creating community to foster continued growth of women in geek culture through events."
It was first held in 2011.
History
GeekGirlCon originated as an idea after a 2010 San Diego Comic-Con panel titled "Geek Girls Exist," which, despite being counterprogrammed against a popular Scott Pilgrim panel, was packed. After that response, some of the session attendees and participants connected through social media and formed the idea for the convention. The first event had nearly 4,000 participants.
A 2012 GeekGirlCon Interview with Anna Zola Miller is excerpted.
