Gamer refers to the group of people who have an active interest in video games or tabletop games. There is some debate over the term, as gatekeepers often claim some people are not "real gamers" for one reason or another. For this reason, some people who play video games prefer not to call themselves gamers. The spelling variation "gaymer" is sometimes used by gay gamers.
