Gallifrey was a Doctor Who fan club in Melbourne, Australia. The club published the fanfic zine Nekros in 1993 and the fanzine Black Light between 1992 -1998.

Founding

The club was founded by Sean-Paul Smith late in 1992, who acknowledged that Richard Freeland, George Ivanoff, Jan MacNally and Kerri Valkova all gave invaluable assistance in its founding.

Sean-Paul reported that he began the club with effectively a club name, a club logo, and a name for the club fanzine (Black Light).[1]

He published membership forms and distributed them at Alternate Worlds and Minotaur bookshops, receiving his first member two days later. Then he spent nine months distributing further membership forms at the Melbourne Science Fiction Club, Austrek, and a variety of collectible fairs and video nights. Membership reached fifty within two months.[1]

A committee and merchandising campaign followed. Then, in January 1994, the club became incorporated, having received assistance and guidance from Star Walking and Shane Morrissey. Due to other organisations also using the name "Gallifrey", the club eventually became incorporated under the name "The Gallifrey Foundation Inc.".[1]

By December 1993, the club had grown to be the second largest Doctor Who club in Australia, boasting over 300 members.[1]
