Background

Callen and Hanna were partners for two years before the series pilot ("Partner"). Callen and Lange met years prior when he escaped from a juvenile detention center and Hetty kept him from further infractions with the law ("Rage"). Hetty is the only one who doesn't address Callen as G. because "It's not a name, it's a letter." Instead, she addresses him as "Mr. Callen" ("Identity"). Callen has connections to NCIS's Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a senior agent at the Washington Navy Yard. According to a fake death certificate in Hetty's possession in the season two finale Callen's date of birth is March 11, 1970. His speciality is deep undercover work.

In addition to English, Callen is fluent in a minimum of six other languages: Czech, French, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Russian and Spanish. His Russian is good enough to qualify as a Chechen dialect. This fluency enabled Callen to infiltrate a Chechen terrorist cell in episode thirteen of season four, "The Chosen One", which premiered less than three months prior to the Boston Marathon Bombing by Chechen immigrants.

Family

Nikita Alexsandr Reznikov is G. Callen's father. He is one of the last living relatives G. has. Clara Callen, G.'s late mother, was a Romanian immigrant who was recruited by the CIA. She was assinated by a member of the Comescus family over a generations long blood feud. His grandfather, George Callen, started the blood feud by killing several members of the Comescus family for war crimes. G. never got to meet his sister, Amy, as she drowned in a river when she was 11. He has a half-sister named Alexandra Reynolds who is alive.
