FurAffinity (FA) is a furry archive for art, music and stories, though they do allow non-furry art as well. It was made as an alternative to SheezyArt, DeviantArt and other art sites.[1]
Forum Closure
In Dec 2022, FurAffinity announced that it's forum would go into read-only mode after seventeen years of service, starting Jan 2023.[2] Though the announcement originally cited the closure as FA's way of "adapting" to the changing internet landscape, a response not long after clarified that the decision was solely financial, as Discord was free.[3]
The announcement was met with mixed reception, with a significant portion of responses from forum members saying that they would not join a Discord, with one member saying "Not everyone want's to be in a crowed Discord server with 1000's of people talking at once."[4] Other members were amiable- or reluctantly amiable- to this change, sympathizing with the financial cost of running a large forum.
In response to negative reception, some moderators and admins chose to respond directly to forum members on the announcement's post. One moderator, Flamingo, explained that they deleted about fifty spam bots off the forum per day, and that the Discord would be easier to moderate.[5] An admin named luffy commented with the suggestion for members to spin up "your own forum for free."[6]
