Frank R. Paul was a science fiction artist who contributed extensively to early science fiction pulps. He started out at Amazing Stories, where he painted the cover for the first issue, and then followed editor Hugo Gernsback to Wonder Stories and other associated magazines. The first issue of Marvel Comics also had a Paul cover.

His work was highly prized by fans, and prints of his were auctioned off at some of the early cons. In a 1940-41 poll by fan Art Widner, Paul ranked first among actifans for covers, and second for interiors and all around work. He was a guest of honor at the first-ever Worldcon in 1939.
