Founding
After withdrawing from a fanzine project due to personality clashes, in mid 1991 I wrote to the BBC asking for permission to run a Doctor Who fanclub and fanzine. I had obtained the guidelines and thought that I would give it a crack, so when not long afterwards and letter arrived giving me clearance to proceed things started to move.Between sending out the initial letter and receiving the reply, three of us sat down and decided what the fanzine should contain. As with the aborted Polyphase Avatron we decided on a good mixture of fiction, reviews and articles for Fast Return.
Keyboards were tapped, very scratchy artwork was drawn and by early 1992 the first issue was ready to be launched onto the unsuspecting public.
After getting clearance for the Cybermen in late July (for a piece of fiction called Execution Deemed Necessary) it was ready.
Once everything was cleared I wrote a letter to the Editor's page of out local paper giving details of the starting of Fourth Dimension Lords.
Soon the local newspaper contacted me for an interview session for an article they were going to run on the club.
When I opened the paper a couple of days later I was shocked to see a half-page photograph of myself and a very brief article about the club. This article caused a lot of interest and gradually fans started joining up from across the local area.
In August 1992 the very first issue of Fast Return was sent out to new members and we have not looked back since.
