Flames of Hell is a 51-page het V/C Beauty and the Beast (TV) anthology of four interconnected stories by Steve Nottingham.
It includes art by Stephen Carlton and Jane Madell. Most of the stories involve Paracelsus.
This zine has a sequel: A New Reign in Hell.
From the Zine's Introduction
Welcome one and all to this, my first Beauty and the Beast fanzine. I hope that you'll find 'Flames of Hell' an interesting read. AH four stories are interconnected, particularly the first three, and they form an overall story-arc.
The main inspiration for the 'flames' themselves comes from Rider Haggard's 'She' novel, and the scene in 'Hallucinogenic' in which Catherine buys another of his novels is intended as a grateful nod of thanks to Haggard. I've often thought that Haggard's own mixture of romance and fantasy is very much in keeping with the spirit of Beauty and the Beast.
All of the four stories in this zine, except one feature Paracelsus as the antagonist, a marvelously evil and fascinating character who was so well played by Tony Jay. To me, Paracelsus is a classic bad guy who is an essential part of the B and B mythos.
Needless to say, the stories are also about Vincent and Catherine too (was that a sigh of relief I heard?) and I've really enjoyed writing for two such wonderful characters; they truly are the most romantic couple on TV.
My main aim in writing the 'flames' stories was to capture the feel and atmosphere of the TV episodes themselves. Everyone has their own idea of what makes a good zine, but for me this is absolutely essential.
