Fire Emblem Trans Hub is a Twitter account dedicated to "celebrating all trans interpretations of Fire Emblem characters from across the series"[1]. The account's four moderators use the account to retweet Fire Emblem fanworks (predominantly fanfiction and fanart, as well as headcanons and memes) featuring trans or nonbinary interpretations of the characters, as well as organise events to encourage the creation and sharing of fanworks with trans or nonbinary interpretations of characters.

History and Development

The hub was established as Fire Emblem Trans Week (@fetransweek) by Twitter and Ao3 user leonidskies (then samariumwriting) on 22nd May 2020 with a view to running an event by the same name. After running the first Fire Emblem Trans Week event, the account changed its name to Fire Emblem Trans Hub (@fetranshub) to run additional events and spread trans-related fanworks.

The account took on one additional moderator (Twitter user LucDrawsThings) to aid in running Fire Emblem Trans Week, then another (Twitter user possiblevoid) to help with Fire Emblem Trans Winter Exchange. A fourth mod (Twitter user Oliver__Niko) was added to help run Fire Emblem Three Houses Trans Big Bang.

As of 2022 and the introduction of the character Kyza to Fire Emblem Heroes (a character whose pronouns were he/him in the original release of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, but had an adjusted localisation in their inclusion in Fire Emblem Heroes), Fire Emblem Trans Hub expanded their remit from headcanons to all trans and nonbinary fanworks, providing that the trans or nonbinary identity of canonically trans or nonbinary characters is referenced in the work.

The hub also has a Tumblr account by the same name. This is a backup account created in 2022 due to the instability of Twitter's future as a website.

Every year after the Fire Emblem Trans Week event, the account polls its followers about future events and solicits feedback on its general running.

Fire Emblem Trans Winter Exchange

Fire Emblem Trans Winter Exchange is an annual event run by Fire Emblem Trans Hub in the winter of each year. The exchange has run in 2020, 2021, and 2022 so far. It is open to all games in the Fire Emblem series, with its only requirement being that requests include at least one trans or nonbinary character. The exchange has so far operated on a cross-platform approach, with sign-ups via a Google form, communication via Twitter or email, and gift delivery occurring across Twitter, email, and Ao3.

Works for all the annual exchanges are tagged #FETransWinterExchange on Twitter, and there are collections on Ao3 for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 exchanges.

Other Events

Fire Emblem Trans Hub has run numerous other fan events centred around trans and nonbinary headcanons in the Fire Emblem series. These events were, to date:

  • Trans Awakening Weekend, which ran 26th-27th September 2020. Works were tagged #transfeaweekend, and the prompts were bonds, legacy, and memory.[5] This event was purely for Fire Emblem Awakening characters.
  • Three Houses Trans Big Bang, which ran in the first half of 2021. The event was predominantly hosted via a Discord server created for the event, which closed when it concluded. Works were collected in an Ao3 collection, linked here. This event was purely for Fire Emblem Three Houses characters.

Other Activities

Fire Emblem Trans Hub operates year-round. The account retweets works featuring trans and nonbinary interpretations of characters when the moderators are aware of these works. The account also retweets events or zines that are explicitly inclusive of trans or nonbinary interpretations, as well as Fire Emblem projects raising money for trans-inclusive LGBTQ+ charities.

Occasionally, the account will run an art share, inviting trans and nonbinary Fire Emblem fans to share their work with others.
