Similar to Inktober or Writember, Fictober is a 31 day challenge for fan fiction writers to write and publish a story everyday for the month of October. The origins of Fictober are unclear, several fandoms have had month long challenges in October with different prompts. However, Welcome to Night Vale fandom seems to be one of the first fandoms to use the term "fictober",[1] and X-Files fandom appears to have had the first fictober blog on Tumblr.[2] As of 2018, Fictober is a challenge open to all fandoms.
