A ficpic is a fanfic type story told through pictures with speech bubbles and captions. The term is sometimes used to name an image that inspires a fic, leading to confusion.

Ficpics resemble the popular Italian Photo comics also known in English as fumetti,[1] photonovels,[2] photoromances,[3] and in Portuguese as fotonovelas, where stories were serialized through photos of actors' performances instead of through illustrations.

The use of images with speech bubbles organized in sequence to create a cohesive textual scene is quite common throughout the fandom as a whole. Films, series and soap operas were printed and sold this way in several countries, such as Star Trek.[2] Fans then started to create their versions with images from these media, but with their own stories.
