Feels Like The First Time was a VCR-era Harry/Johnny vid. The fandom was based on crossing over Dirty Harry with David Soul, an actor who starred in one of the movies who also had a large slash fan following in Starsky and Hutch.
The vid was edited by Stacy Doyle who in 1995 typed up notes for a friend about the planning of the vid. It is quoted here with her permission:
Feels Like the First Time video ideasI have listened to the audio tape of this song for hours (I have it in the car and repeatedly play just that song). I’m not sure which version to use. The way I edited the song the first time, it ‘jerked’ which sounded off key and discordant. I went back and re-edited the song, but I would like your opinion on which version to use.
Visual ideas for the edited line:
My idea was to use the outdoor shooting competition scene from Magnum Force, seeing Johnny at the “dead on” stance and shooting and the same type shot with Harry.
For the repeat of the line, I was thinking of using the ‘starting the motorcycle’ scene with Johnny then Harry. Another possibility is Johnny walking on the roof or down the stairs for the hit contrasted with Harry walking in the dark to retreive the bullet. I’m not sure.
Visual ideas for the unedited line:
In Through Naked Eyes, David fixes dinner for Pam Dawber and I was thinking I would use a shot of him bringing dinner to the table contrasted with one Harry’s shooting scenes from Magnum Force.
For the repeat of the line, I would try and find another ‘domestic type’ scene for Johnny contrasted with a macho scene for Harry.
I haven’t really haven’t decided which I like better, and I have visuals for either version so I want to know whether the edited version is too awkward or sounds disjointed. I dislike the ‘stereotypical woman role’ ideas for the unedited version of the video, but I have a very literal sense when I do videos.
(P.S. The first line “I will climb any mountain” there’s this great butt shot from The Eiger Sanction and for the opening music I was going to start with the sweeping mountain vista to Clint on the hill outside the chalet from Eiger.)
