A Faustian bargain, more commonly known as a deal with the Devil, is trope in fiction involving a person forming a pact with a demon or similarly evil entity in return for special powers, favours, knowledge, etc. This deal generally comes at a steep cost (such as the immortal soul) to the person who accepts it. The term may also refer to agreements struck between more mundane adversaries for mutual advantage and/or as a desperate last-resort.
The trope's name references the deal-with-the-Devil made by the German folkloric figure Faust.
