Kira, the hostess of the Kirk/Spock Online Fest, started a new Yahoo group in January, 2001—Fascinating—as sort of a port in the storm of the ASCEM ruckus. Says Kira, “At first Fascinating was a place where I invited the people I knew and felt really good about, then I offered the current members to propose other fans, and from there it went from a handful of members to 25-30. It was just a place for K/S fen to meet and talk about what interested us, to help each other talk about ideas and thoughts about stories, feed each other back and even beta read each other’s stories. “It was a friendly environment, and it started out as a reaction to the flame wars on ASCEM. Nothing can ever replace ASCEM, though. It’s unique.” [1]
