FanX started as the Salt Lake Comic Con in 2013. It continued as FanX after the San Diego Comic Con sent Dan Farr a cease and desist letter, followed by a court decision that determined SDCC held the trademark for the expression "Comic Con", although Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg were found to have not deliberately breached it. A second event, the Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience began in 2014 and is held in April while FanX is held in September.
