FanPro was a project on Tumblr to create "a fandom with no official story or lore."[1] Participants submitted character designs, which then got referred to by number rather than name, and anyone was invited to create stories and recursive art with these characters (including filling in whatever backstory they desired). Fanpro was started in May 2013 and went on indefinite hiatus in 2017.[2] A sister project, ComProject (short for "Community Project"), remained active until at least 2019.[1]
In 2022, for the 9th anniversary, FanPro re-opened submissions with the goal of getting to 2300 FanPro characters, allowing both art and text-based submissions.[3]
