FFXIVWrite is an annual writing challenge for the Final Fantasy XIV Fandom. Prompts are revealed once daily; participants then have 24 hours to create a newly-written fanwork of any length in any language. The short submission period is to encourage authors to "break the power of perfectionism" over their creative processes and to foster regular writing habits. Authors can submit "make-up" or extra entries on Sundays if they choose. Entries can be posted on any platform (including Tumblr, Twitter, Bluesky, AO3, and more) with links optionally submitted for entry into an art raffle.
The first FFXIVWrite was held in November 2017. Since 2019, the event has been hosted during September.
At the conclusion of the 2023 event, the total works written for FFXIVWrite since 2017 across all platforms was estimated at around 50,656. As of August 2024, there are 2,292 total works tagged for FFXIVWrite on AO3[1].
