He attempts to sell it, but fails, and later discovers that the stone was actually an egg when a dragon hatches from it. The boy and dragon, whom he names Saphira, bond, and Eragon becomes a Dragon Rider.
Eragon was originally self-published by the Paolini family in 2002. It was later re-released by Alfred A. Knopf in 2003. The book became a New York Times bestseller. The other books in the Inheritance Cycle are Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance.
