"Enjoy The Day" is so hot, it burns. The early part of the story fools the reader into expecting a plot but as soon as it gets going this is "plot, what plot?" all the way. I'm tempted to say it's "just sex", but that does the story a real disservice. There's nothing "just" about this story. It's a Jack/Daniel/Teal'c threesome. There are hints that Jack and Teal'c have an established relationship, but who cares, really? In this context it's not important.

The story is told entirely through Daniel's eyes. It opens with a brief discussion between Daniel and one of the elders of the race SG-1are visiting, which sets the mood very well. Daniel is aware that he's missing the point of the old man's words, but fails to dig deeper. As he sets off alone, a more dreamlike mood develops. It's almost like Alice stepping through the looking glass: things become strange rapidly, but Daniel is unusually accepting of the strangeness. It seems out of character until the reader realises what is really happening.

When Daniel encounters Jack and Teal'c, the story becomes more heated and far more unsettling. Daniel is drawn into the sexual encounter against his will, but the story comes across more as a rape-fantasy than as rape, per se. There is no violence and very little actual force involved. The scene is written in a very sensual style, with the emphasis on eroticism and pleasure. Yet it's also clear that - for Daniel, at least - the act is non-consensual.

I do enjoy rap-fics. I also enjoy hot, consensual sex. Here, though, the lines between the two are blurred in a way I find deeply unsettling. I have read "Enjoy The Day" over and over, and I find it's a different story each time. For me, I think the real problem is that this *is* a PWP, and I need the closure this story lacks. If you think I'm missing the point, I won't disagree, but I want to know what happened next: how Jack and Teal'c managed to face Daniel again, and how Daniel dealt with the aftermath of what is, in effect, date rape. I'm looking for a plot, of course, and there is none here.

On the other hand, if you're looking for some sizzling bedtime reading, you can certainly do worse than this one.
