This is an untitled ficlet by my_cnnr based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. It is set some time after the end of the novel (and presumably after the war), when Laurie and Ralph visit Florida.
Synopsis
Laurie complains bitterly about the Florida climate, but the heat doesn't affect Ralph, who has lived in the tropics. Instead, he suggests the two of them go swimming before breakfast.

This story was written for a one-hour Sunday tea challenge to the prompt "dog days of summer".
