Dionysus is a character from the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. Portrayed by Philippe Katerine in a loincloth and painted blue, he was an interpretation of the Greek God of wine.

Canon

The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremonies included a "fashion runway," culminating in giant platter with a dome that was opened to reveal "Dionysus," a nearly-naked blue man surrounded by fruits and flowers. He sang a song about avoiding war and violence through nudity.

Fandom

The organizers compared the event to the Last Supper, and there was backlash from various Christian groups. Later, the actor who played Dionysus apologized for the offense.
