Digimon Tamers is the third season of the Digimon anime series, and it stands out from previous seasons because of its different approach to the Digimon world. Unlike the first two Digimon series, Tamers is set in a world where Digimon is just a popular card game. Something kids play, not a real digital world (at first). The characters are aware of Digimon, but as fans rather than adventurers.
Canon
The main story follows a group of kids: Takato Matsuda, Rika Nonaka, and Henry Wong. They unexpectedly discover that Digimon are real when their partner Digimon emerge into the real world. Together, they must fight rogue Digimon while uncovering a much bigger threat connected to the creation of the Digimon and the Digital World itself.
Digimon Tamers breaks completely from parts 1 and 2 with a new set of characters unrelated to the ones we previously knew. It is also notably darker and more mature than its predecessors. It deals with complex themes like identity, fear, the consequences of violence, and loss.
Fandom
Digimon Tamers wasn't as popular when it was first released. While Digimon Adventure and 02 were universally loved, people had to start from scratch getting to know new cast of charactes. Some fans consider Tamers to be the best Digimon season as it contains more mature themes.
