"Dentist" as a fandom term was coined during Yuletide 2012 on Yuletide Coal for sockpuppets who nominate or request extra fandoms a fan didn't have room for in their own nominations or signups. ("I've asked my mom, sister, friend, postman, and dentist to nominate ____ for me.") ^[1] The term has now spread to other exchanges.
