Deliver Us... is a Sentinel story by Donna Gentry.

Summary: "Borrowing your partner's truck isn't such a great idea after all, as Blair discovers. Mistaken for Jim, Blair is attacked and left for dead in the mountains. Jim races to put the pieces together and find his partner before it's too late."

Reactions and Reviews

Someone attempts to kill Jim by running his truck off the road. Unfortunately, Blair was the only one in the truck at the time.

Okay, this one is really the fault of the Magnificent Seven fandom (sorry M7). For those who don't know that fandom very well, at least 20% of all fics in the fandom are hurt/comfort fics that start with a car accident. I'm not kidding. It's utterly ridiculous. And, sadly, that has burned out my ability to enjoy car accident fic for all time. I'd read this story before I encountered the M7 fandom and thus it went into my possible rec folder, but all I could think about during the re-read was 'not *another* car accident fic!'

ETA: Just to be clear, there's nothing wrong with this fic! It's well-written, you've got lots of h/c, and there's a happy (if slightly rushed) ending. So, if you aren't burned out on car accident fic (which I suspect includes the majority of you), you should certainly give this fic a try.[1]

Somehow, this time, your reasoning doesn't sound very fair to me. My perception is that you aren't judging this fic on its own worth, but because it falls in a genre you are burned out on. Perhaps it would have been better to rant about your burn out on car accident fics without naming any specific fics, unless you think the writing was poorly done.[2]

Oh, no, the writing here was excellent. I'm actually writing this rant in replace of a rec (which I can't write), because I do think this fic deserves exposure, but I just can't rec it myself. Hm. Maybe I'll edit the post to be more clear. Thanks! [3]
