On the 9th of August 2021, Destiel became the first ship in Ao3's history to reach the milestone of 100,000 stories on the fanfiction archive. The final push to reach 100K fics was the collective effort of many fans posting short fics on AO3, and tweeting about the event. Their activities were heavily influenced by a tweet by Castiel actor Misha Collins, drawing attention to the fact Destiel had almost 100K works on the site.[1] His tweet included a link to AO3 Ship Stats 2021.[note 1]

At the moment of my writing this text, there are 100,052 destiel fics in total on AO3. If one read one fic per day, regardless of the length, it would take them 274 years and 3 months to read all of them. If they wanted to be done in 10 years, they would have to read 24.4 fics a day. Let that sink in.[2]
