David Soul Newsletter was a fan-publication for fans of the actor who portrayed Kenneth Hutchinson, a character on Starsky & Hutch.
It is a very rare example of fans having the ear, cooperation, and participation of one TPTB from the show. That person was Amanda Green who was the production assistant of the show's producer, Joseph Naar. Green was also the writer of two of the show's episodes.
Green was also the author of the essay, Starsky and Hutch Remembered.
Connection to the "Love Book"
The same people who produced this newsletter also created the Love Book (and a a planned unidentified video tape). A fan in May 1981 wrote:
I guess two letters and a phone call from Mandy [1] and a call and a letter from David could be construed that he was pleased with the Love Book we sent that arrived at the office on March 11th. David was in the office at the time, helped unpack it and was delighted with the contents. One letter from Mandy to "All Those Who Contributed" reads: "Just a note to let you know that David received the 1980 Love Book on March 11th and is still trying to believe that so many people could put so much love and hard work into something so beautiful just for him. Both Patti and David (and me too, for that matter) thank you with all our hearts and look forward to your cards and letters in 1981." I would like to add my own voice to Mandy's letter and once again thank everyone who donated their art, poetry, cartoons, gifts and letters to this once-a-year opportunity to say "thank you" to David. It works! We are now busy putting together the 1981 book and would be delighted to include contributions from even more folks out there this time. Please join us. It means a lot. One more (and possibly last for some time) video tape will soon be available for conversion. This one is really special, a two-hour tape guaranteed to please. Donations for conversion will once again be $10 per person as long as we have enough inter ested parties. Please send self-addressed and stamped envelope. [2]

Fan Comments
2002
Back in the early 80s just after S&H finished filming Amanda Green worked for David as his personal assistant. She was an assistant to (the producer??) on S&H and wrote the "Gillian" episode. In the early 80s there was a great little David Soul Newsletter that came out (bi-monthly?) and often it had tidbits about things that happened on the set during filming...from Mandy's point of view. Reading them was like being part of a day at work for the guys. <g> I remember a few things that she shared with us... [5]
