Dark at the End of the Tunnel is a Star Trek: DS9 story by Valerie the Nightbird.
Reactions and Reviews
This is my favorite story yet by Nightbird. Once more she proves she hasn't lost her touch or run out of ideas when it comes to ways of making Julian suffer. This story explores what it would take to make Bashir betray a friend, even if the friend is no longer around to defend himself. Told in the first person, Julian's uncertainties, fears, and resignation are driven home most impressively as we follow his plight through his eyes. Excellent characterizations and conversation between O'Brien and Garak--and they're not even really there! A wonderful exploration of post-war, less-principled Federation and too high costs some still have to pay for freedom. [1]
