Damon Knight was an early science fiction fan who helped found the Nation Fantasy Fan Federation (1941) and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (1965). His first story, The Itching Hour, was printed in a 1940 issue of Ray Bradbury's fanzine Futuria Fantasia. He was a member of the Futurians.
