Recs and Reviews

When Temve posted her first fic Curious Old Body on M_A I was hooked. Her style of writing was unlike any fic I had read up until then and I quickly became a fan. I think of all of her stories I like D'shinn Calling the most. [...]

This was written for the "What if one of the boys were a god?" challenge, one which intrigued me tremendously. I've found it annoying that some people (usually Christians, but not always) can talk about 'the complete and total union with God" and yet freak when the 's' word is mentioned in connection to anything 'God-like'. How can it be a complete union if the physical is left out?

The 'union-as-sex with the divine' theme has been around for quite some time, in all corners of the globe. [How many human lovers did Zeus have, anyway?] Tales such as 'Thomas the Rhymer' and the stories of selkies, nephelim and changelings (and Kings marrying elf maidens - LOTR anyone?) are echoes of this theme.

D'shinn Calling is different from its predecessor: while the first dealt with Ob'wan's inner experiences of worshiping his God the sequel shows how that devotion is rewarded via union with deity. Mute, mocked by his peers, grudgingly accepted by his village, Ob'iwan turns his back on them and offers himself up to his God. This time D'shinn accepts, and the devotee gains the joining he craves, though he must die to attain it.[1]
