Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides licenses that "enable people to easily change their copyright terms from the default of 'all rights reserved' to 'some rights reserved.'"

Some fans use CC licenses to set rights on their fanworks that detail the way their works may be used or reproduced by others. Some creators of source texts license their work under CC to grant express permission for some fanworks. See Professional Author Fanfic Policies for some examples.

Fanwork creators such as fanartists and podficcers often make use of CC-licensed images, audio, etc.

Some fanfic fans have noted that the terms of CC licenses, all of which permit redistributing the original work in full, run counter to the fandom norm of not archiving without permission. See the listed CC licenses at Wikipedia.
