Reactions and Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed this story as well. I liked the Janeway B'Elanna relationship, it just worked for me. And Janeway's reaction to the situation...wonderfully done. [1]

Michele's debut. A lovely one. She writes sorrow without drowning in angst and injects humor into unlikely places--and it works. Her Janeway and B'Elanna in this are particularly good, and the end is a real treat. [2]

Michele's introductory story, I think -- and it's a real winner. An examination of shared grief... I loved both Kathryn and B'Elanna in this. And Chakotay, of course... Makes me want to read more. And more. [3]

This is one of my all-time favorite J/C stories. Set early in the voyage and told from B'Elanna's POV, Janeway and the crew must deal with the aftermath of a transporter accident. The imagery and description are beautiful and moving, and the subtle character observations are spot-on. Even though J/C is the focus, the evolving friendship between Janeway and B'Elanna is wonderfully depicted as well. This story is a keeper; if you've never read it before, know that this is one you will keep coming back to time and again because it's just that good. [4]

My art teacher always said: "The most important thing in a painting is the blank space. Leave things out! It makes the picture come to live."

It's the same with this fic: Janeways grief wouldn't be as touching to me if this fic had a diffrent POV. I don't doubt that Michele Masterson could've pulled it off with Janeway as the narrator, but this is the better solution. Make the reader imagine the pain, the loss, the relieve, the love.

I like that Torres is the one that tells the story. That we see what she sees. This way we learn a lot about Janeway and Torres.

A good read![5]

A classic of descriptive language and Janeway characterization.[6]
