Reactions and Reviews
I loved this look at Worf and Troi, meeting years after they had served together. I was annoyed that we were never shown any resolution to that relationship, as well as the way TPTB had Worf show up in "Insurrection" without a single mention of Jadzia's death. A scene like the one between Worf and Troi here would have been perfect. Djinn struck exactly the right notes--everything from acknowledging Troi's past with Worf to her sensing his sadness and loss over Jadzia to her assuring him that he would be able to move on eventually. And I loved that his relationship with Jadzia wrought some changes in him that Troi was able to detect, like a sense of humor. [1]
It's always aggravated me that TPTB didn't close the W/T storyline properly, especially after Jadzia's death. But that's what fic is for and Djinn does a lovely job of bringing closure to the relationship. Worf and Troi are very much in character and finally, the things that needed to be said are said. I also enjoyed the R/T interaction at the end - it sounded and felt very true to both characters. Beautiful job. [2]
I enjoyed this chance encounter between Troi and Worf. I like how it's Riker's concern for Worf that draws Deanna to him--I thought that said a lot about Riker's character and the loyalty and camaraderie between the old command crew. I love the whole conversation between Worf and Deanna about Jadzia. Everything said about grief in their exchange not only rang true, but was in Worf's and Deanna's own authentic voices and exactly in character as Worf asks if he dishonors Jadzia by not being able to move on and Troi reassures him. I wish we could have had seen a scene like this in canon. "Chance Encounter" stands out to me as a lovely and moving story but most of all because I feel like I'm eavesdropping so vividly does Djinn writes these voices. A pleasure to read from beginning to end. [3]
This is a wonderful look at the relationship between Deanna and Worf that takes into account their seperate and connected histories. Djinn does a lovely job on this one; her characterization of all three is incredible. I especially like how we see so many aspects of Worf, even though the story is not written from his point-of-view. We are presented with Deanna's perspective on Worf's situation, but with rich enough detail that we can make our own conclusions. [4]
A good short with excellent characterization of the Worf-Troi-Riker post-W/T dynamic. Wonderful job, Djinn! [5]
All right, I admit it -- I don't care for Deanna Troi. But I *do* like Djinn's stories, and this one is up to her usual standards. The characterization of Worf in particular works exceptionally well. [6]
It's a major failing of the Trek franchise that we never got to see Worf and Troi seriously interact with one another after their off-screen breakup. In this story, Troi does what her character was designed to do, and does it well. [7]
