Subcategory Organization Preferences

I organized the Source Material subcats how it had already begun being sorted here, but then noticed on Category:Marvel Comics that it goes a step further and puts the Art/Memes/Vids, etc into a # subcategory? That seems unnecessary once you've gathered all the source material into an * subcat. But is that the preference?
