Casual sex, also known informally as hooking up, is a sexual trope involving characters sharing one or more sexual encounters without the intent of entering into a committed relationship with each other.
The one night stand is a version of this trope in which sex between characters occurs only once. Friends with benefits is a variant in which the casual sex happens as an arrangement between friends.
